Lima Bean

What is Lima Bean?
Lima bean have other name of Fabaceae or Leguminosae with plant family name Leguminosae. All bean are included on family Fabaceae (Leguminosae). Lima bean can be planted as home garden, early varieties were tough and require string removal and long cooking to soften the bean. Lima bean grow like a brush.

Some people believe that lima bean was originated from Brazil, but new evidence points to Guatemala because wild primitive of lima beans and diverse cultivated forms have been found there.

Native Americans migrated, they took their bean varieties with them. This American then bring this bean through Mexico into American Southwest, then eastward to spread from Florida to Virginia. Various types of lima beans were grown by different tribes. They ranged from the present small types used by the Hopi Indians in the Southwest to the Sieva type found in the East.
